My Crazy Parkinson’s Life

New Years Eve 2021

Well, as Barry Manilow sang, “Looks Like We Made It”, shortly 2022 will begin. As I write this, I hear the sound of hundred dollar bills exploding in the sky, it’s going to be a long noisy night for the dogs. I am not going to write about 2021, we all know it stunk pretty much from January 1st to December 31st, so we will look ahead to the new year.

My top 5 wish list for the new year goes something like this,

#1) Between now and when I have my DBS surgery, someone/anyone find a cure for PD. I know that’s asking for a lot, but if you can make orange chicken out of tofu, then how about a new brain out of toe nail clippings?

#2) To become a better boxer, I know that’s on my list every year, but damn, I stink. Lord knows I try, but somewhere between watching fights on TV and the gym that info gets lost. But never fear, it’s a new year and I am determined as ever, THIS IS MY YEAR!

#3) To keep the rubber side down, easier said than done. For those who don’t know what that means; it means stay on your tires, don`t crash, keep the rubber side down. My new hobby is mountain bike riding, it has been terrifying and gratifying all at the same time. I used to think that the people I ride with, stayed back with me to make sure I was ok; but when they started wearing Gopro cameras, I knew they wanted blood; I really need to get better friends.

#4) Get better friends. (See number #3)

#5) Someone please make an app for your smart phone that will do the capitalization and punctuation for you when texting verbally. Those 52-word sentences are a code that not even Homeland Security can crack.

That will do it, 2021 out, 2022 in, as Jethro Tull wrote “It was new day yesterday, but it’s an old day now”.

Below is poem I wrote for my family at Rock Steady Boxing Green Valley, Happy New Year!!!

WE MADE IT THROUGH ANOTHER YEAR

WE HAD GOOD TIMES AND SHED SOME TEARS

INSPITE OF ALL WE FACED

WE MADE IT TO OUR BOXING PLACE

TOGETHER WE FOUGHT A COMMON FOE

WE STOOD BRAVE, TOE TO TOE

CHEERS TO THOSE WHO LEAD THIS FIGHT

THINK OF THEM ON NEW YEARS NIGHT

TOMORROW WILL BE 2022

SEE YOU MONDAY, WE HAVE WORK TO DO!

LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!
